Soundtrack: The Little Mess You Made, The Favors
Hello, my lovelies!
Life has a way of clicking the fast-forward button. Summer break for the kids is the age-old “the years are short but the days are long” mantra. I love spending time with them, but that means less author time for me. Things tend to pile up into neat corners like last week’s laundry, and I have to decide what to fold in order of importance or activity. Except sheets. Those can stay unfolded in the laundry room forever for all I care.
Thankfully, the work hasn’t stopped. I’m still typing along and I’m excited to share some updates with you!
what’s new
Come and see me in OKC!
I’ll be doing a book signing at Love Stories OKC — a new romance bookstore in Oklahoma City! These folks have been dedicated, inclusive, and welcoming to the indie author space, and I’m so excited to be able to participate in their local author meet and greet series. If you’re in the area (or even if you’re not), you are invited to come and support myself and other authors who are ready to share their stories.
New project, new vibes
I teased this in my last newsletter, but I’m happy to announce the title and mood board of my current work in progress, my first contemporary romance:
FIND ME IN THE LINER NOTES
Isn’t she a beaut?? The elder emo vibes! The colors!!! I’m already so in love with this story, so I can’t wait for you all to experience it, too. A full synopsis to come later, but for now, here’s a sampler:
After meeting at Warped Tour in 2004 and falling out the following summer, Cress Villanueva and Duncan Allister live the next twenty years with a little earworm singing what-if. Then one day, a surprise reunion occurs when Duncan walks into Cress’s office. Riding high on nostalgia, he proposes a grand plan—to have a date for every year they were apart. Secrets are unearthed, mixed CDs are burned, and love is questioned. They are quick to find out that adulting is no easy ride. In fact, it’s a mosh pit.
Official playlist and full synopsis will be out soon, so make sure you’re subscribed to be the first to know!
what i’m reading and watching
Recent books I’ve loved:
The Games Gods Play, Abigail Owen
Problematic Summer Romance, Ali Hazelwood
The Passion Parameter, Ana D’Arcy
Currently Reading:
The Ornithologist’s Field Guide To Love, India Holton
Along Came Amor, Alexis Daria
Sounds Like Love, Ashley Poston
Currently watching:
First Everwood watch (I missed it when it aired, as I’m sure something else clashed at that same time, this was pre-TiVo days, people)
90 Day Fiance (this will forever be ongoing as they just start a new spin-off season as soon as another ends)
what’s next
Liner Notes is currently taking precedence so I can get it to beta readers and then my agent soon. Then, finally cranking out those edits on Everlast. Unfortunately, my paranormal romance is taking a backseat for now, BUTBUTBUT I’m still vision-boarding it up and writing out ideas, so it’s nowhere near a stop right now.
One last note: Fuck ICE. Seriously.
And also, a bit of advice—carry around things that bring you joy. Remind yourself of your goals, that people care about you and what you do. The current political and societal landscape is fucked right now. Do what you have the power to; have courage, be kind, support those who need it. In the in-between, read those love stories, play those games, laugh at funny movies, drool over Slutty Little Glasses (iykyk). Find happiness where you can find it and cling to it. Take care of you, then help take care of those who need that joy more than ever.
Until next time,
Peace, Love, and Pedro Pascal—
Coral
